14th February, 2012

David 'Stress' Wilson

SNBSAC's Welfare Officer, David "Stress" Wilson, has won a BSAC Volunteer of the Year Award. However, Dave's dedication to the club isn't limited to the last year. He has contributed hugely to the club for a number of years. His tireless work secured £20,000 of grants, which allowed us upgrade our RIBs. His contributions doesn't stop there as Dave is an active instructor - even taking trainees to Stoney when there was snow on the ground. So congrats Dave and thanks!

SNBSAC won 3rd place in the BSAC Club of the Year. Despite the small size of our club and landlocked location, the club, driven by the committee, completed a record number of dives and trained more members than any other year. A huge part of the award was down to the stellar work of our diving officer, Dave Wilson, who worked tirelessly to raise funds for the club through applications for a myriad of grants. His success in this regard has allowed us to fund pool sessions and upgrade our boats to allow plenty of summer diving. The committee extends their thanks to all our members for their part in this award. This builds on our 5th place from last year and we're already started working towards 2nd place next year!

SNBSAC's Diving Officer, Fiona Crawley, has won a BSAC Volunteer of the Year Award. Fiona won the award for her outstanding work as Training Officer last year. As training officer, Fiona didn't simply monitor training and delegate but instead tackled the role with zeal, taking responsibility for every possible aspect. While Fiona was training officer, the club saw twice as many trainees as normal. This doesn't just add to the training officer's workload, but is testament to her skill and dedication in the role.

SNBSAC Equipment Officer, Steve Hall, wins award

February, 2010

SNBSAC's Equipment Officer, Steve Hall, has won a BSAC Volunteer of the Year Award. Steve had been a member of SNBSAC for over 14 years and been on committee for over 9 years. He has been a great asset to the club and its diver members. The role of equipment officer / boat officer is not a job with a great title or kudos but requires a great amount of effort. Not only does he spend a his time training as he is a qualified OWI but every week he has to spend a further 3-4 hours getting club equipment ready for the pool and open water. His commitment to the club and its members was demonstrated in October 2009 when one of the club members suffered a serious bend in SCAPA. He spent four days with him at the chamber making sure he had books, accommodation, and food and was OK. This meant he sacrificed the majority of his diving holiday for a fellow diver and friend.
