The 2009 diving season kicked off in fine style over the Easter weekend, as did the sea diving experiences of newbies Dave and Julie. Here is their account of the weekend.........
All set for our 6th annual trip to the Lizard and a long weekends diving with the Porthkerris team........
Traditionally South Northants BSAC travel to Plymouth for the bank holiday trip at the end of May. This year 8 of us decided to stick with tradition and make our way down the M4/M5 with both the club boats for a weekend of diving and fun......
The 9 trepid explorers met at John’s house at 7.30am for bacon rolls (Thanks Lyns!) and a last minute discussion on the best route to take. We set of in 4 cars with enough kit for an army of divers. Sat Navs at the ready we scattered in 4 different directions......
The weather reports for the weekend were looking horrendous . Karen’s thoughts on Wednesday night were to not bother towing the rib all the way to the coast but we decided that would be too defeatist for a bunch of hardy divers......
We arrived in Kenya on 23rd December 2007, just 4 days before the general election, and then promptly left again, on the Royal Star, a 51 year old cruise ship that left Mombasa for a week, visiting Zanzibar, Mayotte, Nosy Komba Island (a lemur sanctuary just off Madagascar)......
We spent the first three days of our trip diving the south of the island at the capital Rosseau, using Dive Dominica whose office was at Fort Young Hotel, where we were staying which made life easy as we only had to walk through the hotel to the jetty for our 08:15 pick up......
On what turned out to be the most fantastic day of the year so far, 9 brave divers set out on a day dash to Swanage, one of the clubs first coastal trips of 2007. For some it would be the first time in the UK seas and they were counting on this trip to complete their qualifications......
Unlike the date suggests, the long 5 hour trip to Seahouses was uneventful and even the build up of traffic in Newcastle didn't hinder us too much. Nikki and I arrived in good time and before most of the others so took full advantage of the relaxed and enjoyable scenery in the Ship Inn .......
